The Abt Associates-led Private Sector Partnerships-One (PSP-One) project works with the private sector to strengthen strategic approaches in public private partnership, enhance the quality and reach of their interventions, and apply best practices in sector approaches to HIV/AIDS. USAID’s Diarrheal Disease Control Plus: Point-of-Use Water Disinfection and Zinc Treatment (POUZN) Project, led by Abt Associates, launched Africa’s first diarrhea treatment kit, containing two sachets of a new, orange-flavored, low-osmolarity oral rehydration salts (ORS) and ten tablets of pediatric zinc, in the west African nation of Benin. AED/POUZN and its commercial partners recently began an operations research project in India to determine if rural medical practitioners (RMPs), who treat the vast majority of rural diarrhea cases yet fall outside the formal medical system, would prescribe ORS and zinc treatment in a sustainable manner if approached by medical representatives. The IFPS II Technical Assistance Project (ITAP) has been instrumental in initiating Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) for improving access to quality reproductive health services in Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh (UP). ITAP has designed and is presently piloting the voucher system, social franchising and mobile health vans. |
